Imaging the lens.


Using continuous near coaxial illumination, patience and a steady hand it is possible to use fundic reflections to retroilluminate lens changes and document lens lesions in a way which is very difficult to achieve with conventional photographic techniques. With the addition of a  simple macro lens and a trained assistant or using a simple tele-adaptor attached to the slit lamp eye piece slit lamp images can be obtained with little practice. Anterior lens pathology can also be imaged directly at high magnification with a macro lens with either near coaxial or oblique illumination. Each technique will be outlined below.
